A Local Wet Market at Taman Pengkalan Jaya, (SPPK) Ipoh

It is early morning and there are so many things on sale at the SPPK market located at Taman Pengkalan Jaya, Jalan Pasir Puteh, Ipoh. There is so much variety, I wouldn't mind doing marketing and cooking every day!

The traders are friendly here, prices reasonably cheap and if you ask them, they will give you some advice on how to cook the fish, meat, vegetables that they are selling. The produce are all fresh, some are directly from the trader's own homes. I get to buy eggs freshly laid by free range chickens, freshly caught freshwater fishes and even home cooked cakes and desserts.

Some people will go jogging, tai chi, qigong or other morning exercises before dropping by the market for their shopping. Along the road, there are some stalls selling clothes, accessories, beauty products and household items. Sales representatives like to come here to give demonstrations on how to use their wares. Nowadays they use microphones, so you can hear them from a far distance. Now, if you hear the word, Lelong! Lelong! it means that the pries are rock bottom and you can get household stuff at dirt cheap prices. No need to wait for the weekends.

Breakfast is just a few steps away in the coffee shops adjacent to these stalls. There are also some food stalls right inside this wet market. One stall sells the most delicous Wan Tan Noodles.

Eventhough I live 200 km away, I will never fail to visit this market whenever I go back to Ipoh.

  5. Great market shots. This looks like a really fun one. I was a little stumped by the term "wet" market but Google answered my question. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary today!
