The Giant Tree at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now.
~Chinese Proverb

More than 20 years ago, I came to Titiwangsa Lake Gardens, Kuala Lumpur aka Taman Tasik Titiwangsa for a city outing with my friends. I was single and still studying. We had fun taking photos, went kayaking and boat paddling at this lake. Later in the day, we picnic under the shade of this big, beautiful tree. Its gigantic branches were like arms opened wide, shielding us from the sun and rain.

Many things have changed since then. Even the city skyline is different. But this tree is still there, standing tall and mightly as ever. I wonder how many persons have crossed paths with this tree. How time flies.

Do you have some pleasant memories related to a tree?
This is my entry for Monochrome Maniacs. My grateful thanks to Aileni for hosting this wonderful site. Also, thank you so much for giving me an accolade for my last week's post. In is indeed a great honour to me.

  1. A delightful post. I too love trees for this reason - a sense of continuity.

  2. Lovely picture of a lovely tree! I've never been to Malaysia, but the trees in Thailand still give me a lot of great memories!

  3. Wow! That tree makes me think of calaveras big trees, CA, USA. Also the giant sequoia of the sierra Nevada. Those trees are thousands of years old. Trees have so many tales to tell, so many lessons to teach--it just takes an open and inquiring mind to discover it. I love to be out in nature, but even more I love to find a quiet glade and just appreciate the silent language of trees.

  9. I had not heard that proverb, thank you for that. And I am glad that the tree was still there for you to enjoy so many years later. It gives me a chance to think about the trees I have known, the small live oaks of my home area and the towering maples where I live now. The buckeye tree on my college campus - its still there!

  10. A lovely photo of a wonderful tree. I like the lines of the limbs and the feather like quality of the leaves. I enjoyed reading your memories of the tree.
