T for Tinsel - ABC Wednesday

Today is ABC Wednesday Round 5

T is for
...... Tinsel, Tree and Twinkling lights!

Photo taken at the lobby of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Malaysia.

This is a beautiful Christmas tree decorated with christmas ornaments and tinsel. It is indeed a spectacular sight when lighted up with twinkling lights.

According to, about.com's The History of Christmas Stuff, tinsel which was first invented in 1610 in Germany was made of silver shredded by machines into tinsel-sized strips. As silver tinsel tarnishes and loses its shine with time, artificial ones were invented to take its place. So tinsel which was originally a metallic garland is now replaced by plastic ones.

According to online The Free Dictionary, tinsel means

1. Very thin sheets, strips, or threads of a glittering material used as a decoration, or
2. Something sparkling or showy but basically valueless

A beautifully decorated Christmas Tree with lighted ornaments, beads and tinsel can transform the surroundings into a magical place where fairy tales come alive. All the glitter reminds me of angels and fairies and a faraway place where Tinkerbell and Terence, the Disney fairies live and thrive.

Fairy names for baby girls are Tana, Tania, Tanya, Tatiana, Tananye, Tianna or Titania. All carry the meaning of Fairy Queen.

  4. A gorgeous and very tall tree! Sydney usually has one very similar in the Queen Victoria Building. I have not seen this year's version yet. However, on Saturday night a friend and I are going on a photography excursion to shoot the city's Christmas lights.
