The Popularity of Bottled Water

Bottled water is so very convenient it has become the drink of choice for many people around the world. In 2007, more than 200 billion littres of bottled water were sold worldwide. In the US, bottled water has outsold both milk and beer.

How much energy is needed to make the bottled water? Scientists has estimated that the production of plastic bottles to meet the demand for bottled water consumption uses 50 million barrels of oil annually.

Do you think we can change our lifestyle to reduce the consumption of bottled water?

  2. I do buy bottled water, but only in gallons or larger. I do not believe our water supply is safe, so I buy it. I carry a water bottle, but not a plastic one. I keep my metal bottle with me whenever I travel any distance from home and refill it as needed.

  3. Autumn Belle, Great post! Hopefully everyone who drinks the bottled water recycles the plastic bottles.

  4. There's a recycle bin in my neighbourhood, for plastic, paper and metal. Every week there's another organisation going around collecting the recyclable from door to door. So there's no reason why we cannot do our part to be green.

I saw the messy beach in a little fishing village in Johore, houses were just metres away and the area has become the dumping ground for garbage!

  5. Great post, and a clever container for bottle recycling!
Our neiborhood does a lot of recycling too - paper, bottles, etc.

  7. I'm all for reducing the consumption of bottled water, though a blanket ban may be too draconian.

  8. I think we are going to start taxing plastic bottles here in my state. We do recycle them, but they are also going to add a deposit. But we do need to cut down on them all together. Michelle
