Auspicious Cross Stitch Designs

The above are cross stitch motifs done by my daughter. Despite her busy school work and exam schedule, she loves doing handicraft.  The first image is the picture of our Wealth God carrying a gold ingot. We display his image for good fortune and prosperity. The second is a happy couple, very auspicious to promote a loving marriage or harmonious relationship.

She needs some ideas for the second piece. Do you think the second design is suited for a pillow case or frammed picture?

This is my entry for Thursday Challenge, the Photo Theme this week is CRAFTS (Supplies, Knitting, Crocheting, Woodworking, Pottery, Painting,...). To view what others have for today, click here.

  1. Frame picture...too sayang for a pillow, it may get dirty. My second daughter wanted to try one, so I'll get her a starter kit..other than that, she reads a lot :) Happy deepavali :)

  2. Very neatly done. Second one could make for a good TV cover front too, or a stereo cover. Like Kate said, pillow wouldn't go well.
    Happy Diwali!

  3. How old is your daughter AB? I was a very good X-stitch maker in the '90s, before doing school again. I give them to friends and also as my collection. How about you, do you x-stitch too? Abt your question, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder!

  4. P.S. I just read the comment above by M. Kate, who i assume is also Malaysian. When you say 'sayang' does it mean it is just like a waste or not maximizing its use as is intended to be? In the context she used it, it is the same meaning also as our 'sayang' use. That means we can use it in the same way, and here we also don't have a direct translation of it, so when i will use it with English will use it the same way as MKate did.

  5. I prefer to have it framed, they are too beautiful to be used as pillow case! I used to do cross-stitch long time ago, but I prefer crocheting now.

  6. omgh...i did the same patern when i was young. The 1st patern. Took me ages to finish that.

  7. Kate, Punam, Jama, I think so too. For such painstaking efforts, it is better to frame it so that it can last longer. Actually it is a present for somebody special.

Andrea, my daughter has already 'graduated' from the teenage stage. I'm not sure if she'd like me to reveal her exact age ;-D
I can't do embroidery or cross-stitch but it is something I'd like to learn when I have more time. I can crochet. You have guessed correctly on the meaning of the word, 'sayang' in Kate's comments above. Sayang can also means love, depending on the sentence.

Small Kuching, yeah, it takes a long time and patience to complete each job. Luckily the map/design outline is quite easy to follow. The first one was completed a few years ago.

Thoughtful Randomness, thanks for the nice words. I'm sure my daughter will be delighted to hear this.
