Dragons symbolises power, courage and immense succcess while the tortoise is a symbol of longevity, protection, support, wealth and prosperity.  Therefore a dragon tortoise will represents the combination of the best characteristics of the 2 celestial animals.

Concrete Art at Grand Kampar Hotel Perak

This is a concrete sculpture at the fountain display in front of the Grand Kampar Hotel.

Kampar is a town in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Kampar was rich in tin deposits when it was founded in 1887. It was a booming town until WW1. Later, with the collapse of the market for tin in 1985, many tin mines closed down and Kampar became a sleepy hollow. Recently this town is once again bustling with activities due to the opening of University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) campuses in Kampar. With an enrolment of 20,000 students from the 2 institutions of higher learning, it is hoped that Kampar town will be restored to its former glory.

ABC Wednesday - F for FOOD

Today is ABC Wednesday
F is for .....
FOOD!

This Durian Cheesecake from The Secret Recipe Cafe is my son's favourite. Real durian flesh is used in making this cheescake. Just durian flavour won't do because we want the real thing, i.e. genuine, authentic durian flesh.

Durians are in season now and many Malaysians just love durians, in whatever form. Recently, our foreign visitors and tourists are getting braver and more adventurous with this 'smelly' fruit.

So, when in Malaysia, do like what Malaysians do, eat durians!

Have you eaten durians?

Chong Kong Tong Temple, Klang

This temple is situated along the first mile of Jalan Kapar, Klang. It is just behind Restaurant Yew Kee (famous for prawn noodle).

It's address is as follows:
24, Jalan Miri Kaw. 18, 41400 Klang, Selangor, Malaysia.

Something from My World:
On Monday and Tuesday marks the 14th and 15th day of the 7th Lunar Month which is the season for the Hungry Ghost Festival. Chinese Cantonese Taoist celebrate this festival on 14th while Hokkiens and Buddhist celebrate on the 15th. We believe that in the 7th lunar month, the gates of hell (or Netherworld) are opened and the departed souls and spirits are free to roam the streets. Prayers are held at temples to bless their souls for a smooth reincarnation and at home, we burn paper money to our departed ones. During the daytime, we offer prayers to our ancestors at home and at the temples. At night, after dusk, we will burn incense, joss and paper money outside our homes and offer some food to the wandering souls. Children are advised to stay indoors after dark. During this whole month, we also try to avoid swimming activities and the sea as many believe that the souls of those who died at sea/swimming will be looking for substitudes before they can reborn again. This festival is still actively practised to this day. To read more, please visit Wikipedia here.

Pavilion KL Hibiscus Crystal Fountain

Many tourists who visit Pavilion KL also come to this Crystal Fountain to toss a coin and make a wish.

A signage nearby reads as follows:
"The Bloom of the Hibiscus, the national flower of Malaysia is a symbol of opulence, passion and progression.
The three bowls represent Malaysia's multiracial culture living harmoniously in unity. Ascending to signify the growing aspirations of the people.
Serenely the water converges from all directions, an endless source of blessings and prosperity.
The crystal glass fountain bestows luminous wealth upon the city and the nation.
Conceptualised by Pavillion Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with LiuLiGongFang".

Would you like to a wish or perhaps whisper your hopes and dreams before you toss a coin?
Perhaps it may just come true!
Or have you already done this before?

which falls on 31st August 2010,

This is my inspirational quote for today:

A Chinese Legend:
On Monday, August 16th 2010 was the 7th day of the 7th month of the Lunar Calendar. Long ago until the early 20th century, Chinese people celebrated this 'Valentine' festival of romance between "The Cowherd And The Weaving Girl". You can find more details by clicking this link: Wikipedia, Qixi Festival.

Ladies used cosmetics, flowers and sewing kit to pray to Weaving Girl (a fairy from heaven) and asked for beauty, excellent living skills and a good husband. Gentlemen used clothes, comb and wallet to pray to Cowherd Boy for looks, job opportunities, money and a good wife.

At this age and time, this festival is no longer practised and almost forgotten. We only see the story retold in movies and drama serials.

Sunset location: Next to Butterfly Park, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, Klang.

A sky that seems to be on fire,

Buildings that look like miniatures against the imense skies.

A masterpiece of nature.
Perfect for my lens aperture.

Citrus Mint Drink at The Manhattan Fish Market

Recently, the Manhattan Fish Market eatery came out with a new menu promotion,"Rush Hour @ Manhattan". This drink is called "Citrus Mint" @ RM 6.90 (or USD 2.18) is my favourite thirst quencher. It is made of lemon juice with a sprinkle of spearmint leaves blended together with some ice cubes.  The result is a refreshingly fresh lemon juice smoothie with a dash of cool minty flavour.

Air Cincau Bandung Drink

Today is ABC Wednesday
D is for .....
DRINK

This drink available at the Laksa Shack eatery is called Air Cincau Bandung. It is composed of black cincau (grass jelly) suspended in Air Bandung. Air Bandung is a drink made from adding fresh milk (or condensed milk) and soda to Rose Syrup. The ingredients for Rose Syrup are rose essence, water, pandan leaves and red food colouring.

This is a popular drink that goes well with our hot and spicy Malaysian dishes such laksa and tomyam.

Today is the start of the fasting month of Ramadhan, hence I would like to wish all muslims Selamat Berpuasa in the morning and Selamat Berbuka Puasa in the evening.

Orchids At The Garden Bazaar

Many orchids are native to Malaysia and they are found abundantly here. This is the scene at the Garden Bazaar during Floria 2010. Many people are crowding around a section which sells orchid plants at a discounted price of RM 10.00 for 3 which amounts to less than USD 1.00. This orchid is at seedling stage and without flowers yet. When we go back home, we have to pot it up ourselves.

Putrajaya Millenium Monument for Monochrome Maniacs

The Millennium Monument is a national monument in Putrajaya, Malaysia. It looks similar to the Washington Monument in Washington DC.  The monument is made of solid metal structures. It is uniquely shaped like an obelisk with etchings denoting important periods and milestones in our nation’s history.

The monument stands tall at 68m. It is located in a 25 hectare park in Precinct 2, the venue for Floria 2009 and Floria 2010. It is just opposite the National Registration Department or Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara.

There is a cruise operator nearby offering cruises and water sports. There is also a cafe "Ceritera" serving local food and drinks.

At night, the monument serves as a beacon with strong light projected at 360 degrees and sweeping lights visible from various locations in Putrajaya. The lights also guide the cruise boats.
