Today I want to pay a tribute to all the homeless dogs who are considered 'strays' on our planet Earth. I came accross this doggie during one of my outstation travels and it (he/she?) is so cute and friendly. I call him Lucky. He seemed very clean, happy and well taken care of. He was wagging his tail and willingly pose for my camera. I shall not reveal where this was taken because if I do, his life may be in danger. I can see that Lucky is not wearing a tag which means he doesn't have a licence which means he is considered a stray dog.
Some local councils employ Dog Catchers to catch strays and put them to sleep. But I guess they forgot about the emotions of the people who loved these strays. Yesterday, our daily newspaer ran a report about the tragedy that befell a 12 year old pet dog. You can read the report here.
"Six men came in a white van and caught my dog Puppy, which I let out of the house for only 5 minutes so it could ease itself. It does not have a licence." That was the last time the owner saw her dog alive. Her dog was put to sleep and buried at a landfill.
They say that dogs are man's best friend. How true. Dogs have given so much happiness to human beings, so here's a poem for all of us:
Prayer of gentleness to all creatures
To all the humble beasts there be,
To all the birds on land and sea,
Great Spirit, sweet protection give
That free and happy they may live!
And to our hearts the rapture bring
Of love for every living thing;
Make us all one kin, and bless
Our ways with Nature's gentleness!
