It's a blue sky today for Skywatch Friday.

GRAFFITI - Is it an art, a nuisance or a crime?

Thursday Challenge - Technology

A TV promotion going on at Mid Valley Megamall in May 2010, months before the FIFA World Cup. Many homes and restaurant owners upgrade their TV sets to better enjoy the football matches.

Technology is advancing so fast, I find difficult to keep up, even in the case of home appliances like TV screens. I am confused with LED, Plastma, Flat Screen, 3D TV, etc.

What kind of TV are you using at home?

This is my entry for Thursday Challenge, the Photo Theme this week is  "TECHNOLOGY" (Machines, Gears, Engines, Mobile Phones, Laptops, Wires, Toy Robots). To view what others have for today, click here.

This century old public park is currently undergoing major upgrading works by the Kuala Lumpur city Hall (DBKL). Some proposed new features include a park for the visually impaired and man-made waterfalls. The public and NGOs are welcome to send in their suggestions and ideas.

  • Monetary donations are pouring in from the private sector
  • The trees planted include Cannonball, Bottle Tree, Baobab, Black Bamboo, Moringa, Cycus and also a 100 year old Plumeria tree donated by an anonymous benefactor.
  • Trees infested with termites and parasites are being rehabilitated.
  • DBKL is looking for suitable plants and trees for the visually impaired park, and this would include those that could be touched and felt.
  • Phase 2 will benefit children with special playground featuring Lat The Kampong Boy series, a cafe, a tree house and a boathouse

Pavilion KL Hibiscus Crystal Fountain

Many tourists who visit Pavilion KL also come to this Crystal Fountain to toss a coin and make a wish.

A signage nearby reads as follows:
"The Bloom of the Hibiscus, the national flower of Malaysia is a symbol of opulence, passion and progression.
The three bowls represent Malaysia's multiracial culture living harmoniously in unity. Ascending to signify the growing aspirations of the people.
Serenely the water converges from all directions, an endless source of blessings and prosperity.
The crystal glass fountain bestows luminous wealth upon the city and the nation.
Conceptualised by Pavillion Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with LiuLiGongFang".

Would you like to a wish or perhaps whisper your hopes and dreams before you toss a coin?
Perhaps it may just come true!
Or have you already done this before?

Out In The Streets of Kuala Lumpur

This picture is taken at the junction leading to MECC Building in Kuala Lumpur. The weather is good with clear blue skies. Notice the advertisement banner haning on the lamp-post at the right corner of this picture. This is a popular method of advertisement at the moment. Advertisements are for tuition centres, beauty centres, even magic creams and potions for hair loss and vitality.

Skywatch from SohoKL

Looking at the picture it has the illusion that the Petronas Twin Towers is touching the clouds. The 2 blue domes of the mosque next to it seem to be on top of one another.

There is a double decker bus travelling along the highway. Are such buses common in you country?

Sunset over Cloudy Skies at Wangsa Maju

Picture taken from the Wangsa Maju LRT station

Looks like it is going to be a thunderstorm or heavy rain is coming. But first, lets enjoy the sunset.

“Clouds come floating into my life,
no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky.”

Hibiscus Liuli Crystal Fountain at Pavilion KL

The Grand Bloom of Fulfillment fountain is our nation's latest iconic landmark. You can view it at the entrance of Pavilion KL, a shopping centre located in Bukit Bintang area, the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur city. This 3-tier Liuli crystal fountain measuring 3.6m by 6m is valued at RM 8 milion. Its essence is a reflection of the 1Malaysia concept.

This fountain was launched by our Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ng Yen Yen on July 4th, 2009 to coincide with Malaysia's Mega Sale season then.

Now, why not try this: Toss a coin into the Pavilion Crystal Fountain, just like the Trevi Fountain in Rome, where tourists would toss a coin into the fountain and make a wish or whisper your hopes and dreams. Perhaps it may just come true!
Or have you already done this before?

This fountain has been acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records as Malaysia’s tallest Liuli Crystal Fountain.

Think(ing) Green Thursday - An Old Malay Custom on Tree Planting

I am fascinated by this report under the Star Metro section of our local newspaper The Star, publication dated 20 December 2009, title "Reviving an old Malay custom."

Planting a tree for every birth in the family is a Malay custom that, sadly, is almost lost. Many people are unaware of this tradition.

Recently, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Countil (MPAJ) launched a programme, "Satu Kelahiran, Satu Pokok (One Birth, One Tree) in cooperation with the Ampang Hostpital, Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital and Pantai Hospital. Chinese, Indian and Malay parents were selected to plant trees at an event organised by MPAJ. A total of 60 trees were planted in the empty lot next to the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital.

The Selangor government has set a target of 90,000 trees for the local countils to plant this year. MPAJ has exceeded the target when they planted 97,000 trees this year.

Participants were very happy that the local councils were doing a good job of balancing development with environment care.

Do you like the idea of planting a tree in your own compound or garden to mark the birth of each of your children?

Thank you to Michelle of Rambling Woods for hosting Think(ing) Green Thursday # 30. To participate or to view contributions from other green thinkers around the globe, please visit here.
