Skywatch Along The PLUS Highway

While travelling along the North-South Highway, we get to witness beautiful views of the countryside, rainforests, blue mountains and beautiful cloud formations. We also get to see sunset and sunrise depending on what time of the day it is.

At this moment when the photo was taken, storm clouds were gathering fast and it was already raining heavily in some places.

Water Sports at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa - A Travel Back in Time

Looks like the weather is going to be fine today, great for family outing, picnics and life in the outdoors. We can try some water sports at the Titiwangsa Lake Gardens, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Here, we can also enjoy the scenic views of the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, National Theatre, all national icons.

I am sure this is also a nostalgic place for many couples who had come here before, walking hand in hand, romancing on its grounds. It is on this same place, same site, more than 20 years ago, I first met and fell in love with my hubby. Our first journey in life, together as a couple was riding the pedal boat here. Funny how much physically things and views have changed over the years but deep inside, we are still the same person.

Skywatch at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens KL

The sky was turning dark grey with huge nimbus clouds and lightning strikes when I reached here. After an hour or so, and some drizzle of rain, the sky cleared up. Soon it was blue skies and everything nice once again!

All Inn Cafe for Tong Shui Desserts in Ipoh

The All Inn Cafe in Ipoh Old Town is located opposite Kedai Kopi Kong Heng. It has a very creative name, big colourfull posters of mouth-watering desserts and kueh. Looks good. I have tried the 'tong shui' here. It tastes good.

All Inn Cafe
2, Jalan Panglima
30000 Ipoh, Perak

Tel: 019-5569872 or 016-5571263 (Contact: May Lee)

As shown in the picture above, our deserts soups and herbal drinks use a lot of fragrant pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius) leaves. Some of the ingredients used include the following:

a) dried stuff like longan, lotus seeds, fungus
b) canned lai chees
c) pumpkin
d) tubers such as yam, sweet potato, tapioca
e) grains such as wheat, sago, barley,
f) coconut milk
g) beans such as red beans, mung beans, black beans
i) sesame seeds including black sesame seeds
j) glutinous rice (black and white)
k) gula melaka (sugar molasses), rock sugar, cane sugar
l) quail eggs
m) fruits such as honey dew, papaya

Many of us believe that drinking 'tong shui' helps towards a good complexion. It also 'cools down' our system during heaty spells.

Your Say - What comes into your mind regarding the name, "All Inn?

A Banana Trunk Invention That Pays Off

On April 13th, 2010, The Star reported that two Malaysian students have won international recognition for inventing a simple device that removes spilled oil from water by using modified banana trunk fibre. The link is here.

This low cost device that they invented can come in very useful during multi-million dollar oil spills.

Banana plants are native to South East Asia and they grow abundantly in Malaysia; in the villages, jungles, along highways and open areas. Banana fruits are eaten raw or fried in batter. Banana flowers can be eaten raw or cooked in soups and curries while the leaves are used as wraps in cooking and storing food. In certain Indian and Muslim restaurants, rice is served on banana leaves. It makes the food taste better. In the rural areas, some farmers cut the banana trunks into small pieces and feed them to ducks, otherwise they will be chopped off and thrown away.

A banana plant flowers only once. The fruits grow in hanging clusters in tiers along a bunch. A bunch has 3-20 tiers while each tier has 3-10 banana fruits. The seeds are very tiny and it is easier to propagate by suckers that grow from the ground.

Isn't it great to know that our banana plant is multi-purpose ?

This is also my entry for Thursday Challenge Theme which is "Green".

Post publication update: I'd like to thank Andrea for highlighting to me that it should be banana plant, not a banana tree as it does not have a proper trunk.

An LRT station at Wangsa Maju, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

According to The Star yesterday, Nanyang Siang Pau, a Chinese daily reported that our Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) or Malayan Railways Limited has plans for a train exclusively for women only. A trial run will be conducted this month.  KTMB plans to allocate 1 of the 3 coaches in each commuter train for women passengers only.

No Plastic Day Campaign

I am happy to know that McDonald's Malaysia is giving their support for "No Plastic Day" campaign. The news was published by The Star newspaper, tittled, "Golden Arches Go Green in Penang."

McDonald's 18 outlets in Penang will replace plastic bags with paper bags every Monday to Wednesday. It has also started to use paper instead of foam for its beverage cup from last month.

McDonald's has 194 outlets in Malaysia and employs about 8,000 workers. ..The Star
