A is for ABC Malaysian Dessert

“A is for ABC Malaysian Dessert”, a copyrighted post, was written for Klang, Malaysia Daily Photo blog by Autumn Belle @ http://mymalaysiadailyphoto.blogspot.com/ on July 21st, 2010.

Today is ABC Wednesday..
A is for .....
ABC!

In Malaysia, we have a popular dessert which locals fondly calls it ABC.
It stands for Air Batu Campur which literally translates to Ice Cubes Mix.
The correct name is Ais Kacang and to find out more, you can visit Wikipedia here.

The above picture is taken at a home party. The host has served ABC to the delight of the guests. The waiter uses an automatic machine to crush the ice. Traditionally, we used a manual machine where we have to turn a peddle with one hand to make the ice shavings. And yes, we already have ABC long before somebody introduced smoothies and bubble teas here.

Have you tried this before and do your like it?
It is my favourite!

This dessert is available at hotels, resorts, shopping complex outlets but the most delicious ones are found at hawker stalls in the streets.

So, the next time when you are in Malaysia, just tell your host, you want to have ABC Dessert.

ABC Wednesday hosted by Mrs. Denise Nesbitt and the ABC Team of Denise, Roger, Jay, Troy, Barb, Gattina and Slyvia. To participate and view what others have in mind, please log on to this site.

  13. Ah so you call that ABC, here it is called Halo-halo or mix-mix because we literally mix all the ingredients before eating. I guess that is the hot tropics panacea during those hot months. We have even big businesses here which only caters that. The quality depends on the number of ingredients and the quantity and quality of the pre-cooked sweets. When we have foreign guests we try to introduce them to our halo-halo. I actually love it with makapuno (a coconut which is full of endosperm - mutant), jackfruit, sago palm or kaong, different kinds of beans, and other sweetened fruit preserves. If it is special we put ice cream on top and lots of milk.
